Economic Evaluation – evaluate the potential of your new economyFebruary 18th, 2013 6 comments

An Economic Evaluation activity estimates the potential value of key parts of your new local economy. Forecasting how much revenue and how many jobs your potential re-localised food sector might produce, for example,  is valuable information. This can help you get the attention of key organisations that might not yet understand the true potential of a new economy, such as you your local council.

The REconomy Project is working with Transition Hereford (a rural county), Transition Town Brixton (inner city London) and Transition Town Totnes (a market town in Devon) to pilot this approach. You can download the available reports below.

As this work draws to a close in Totnes and Hereford at least, we are now starting to create a generic, replicable process that can be used by any community to do similar work – to estimate the potential of a new economy, primarily in terms of quantitative economic value (jobs and revenue) – but also exploring social and environmental benefits.

The results of this work enables us to speak to our local partners and other organisations using their language, and raises awareness of the potential ‘size of the prize’. It then helps shape the local economic strategy and other decision making.

As the outputs of each project are made available, they will be shared here. We will also link to how-to guides and the online training modules once they are ready (hopefully by mid 2013). If you are interested in being part of the first pilot training group, running from April, please let me know ASAP.

If you have any other questions, please contact me (Fiona Ward).
